Simple Peer-to-Peer Network

Peer-To-Peer

In a peer-to-peer network there are no dedicated servers or hierarchy among the computers.  All of the computers on the network handle security and administration for themselves.  The users must make the decisions about who gets access to what.

Network Cards

All computers to participate in a network must have a Network Interface Card (NIC).  A NIC is a circuit board or chip, which allows the computer to "talk" to other computers within the network.  This board allows users to share resources, information & computer hardware.

Productive NetworksWhat's Right For You?

It doesn't matter if you are trying to connect a couple of PCs in your home or if you are trying to connect a few hundred employee workstations, there are things to know and EXCELL can help.  We have the experience to recommend the right network for you based upon your specific needs including; the number of connections required, anticipated growth, building structure as well as other critical to minor factors.  EXCELL has everything needed to establish the smallest and the largest networks.

Ethernet Networks

The most popular network type for both home and business is Ethernet.  Ethernet is the fastest of the network types and can be the least expensive.  Ethernet networks are very stable and your network speed will never fluctuate or be prone to interference like other network types are.

Ethernet requires special cables running from each computer.  These cables are plugged into a central "Ethernet hub" or "switch".  If your computers are far apart, running cable in an existing home or business may be difficult.  Pre-made Ethernet cables come in sizes ranging from 3 feet to 50 feet.  Ethernet adapters come in many shapes and sizes, but PCI Ethernet cards are both the fastest and least expensive.

Ethernet can operate at 10Mbps to Gigabyte speeds.  10Mbps equipment is older and slower than higher equipment but  will work just fine on 10/100Mbps networks.

Wireless Networks

The obvious advantage of a wireless network is that no cable is needed to connect equipment within the network.  This can be almost a necessity in some pre-existing structures.  There are certain disadvantages with wireless that include the potential for radio interference due to weather, other wireless devices, or obstructions that block the signal.  Line of sight always gives the best performance.  In some highly sensitive instances, even security may be at issue.

How EXCELL Can Help

EXCELL cannot only provide the right equipment for your network, we can help you decide which type of network is best for your needs and is possible within your existing or planned new structure.  EXCELL can design the fastest and most reliable network and provide the equipment that will fit within your budget.  We can "grow" an existing network with minimal interruption.  EXCELL's expertise will take the worry out of critical network security concerns such as firewall configuration and virus protection.  Regardless if you are establishing a small or large network, contact us for a free consultation.  We'll help you decide what's right for you!
